Despite all our optimism, we must not forget the suffering of people, especially in Ukraine, Gaza, the West Bank, Iran, and Lebanon.<\/strong> The disastrous war in the Middle East, with its global repercussions (update below), makes it very difficult not to give up hope for a new beginning, optimism, love, and peace in the world. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
26.9. 2026:<\/span> 175 Years of the Talitha Kumi School in Beit Jala<\/strong> (Text: Video message from JIK<\/strong>)
Dear Talitha Kumi school community, dear friends, and distinguished guests, Unfortunately, as the chairperson of JugendInterKult e.V., I am unable to attend this ceremony in person. That is why I am sending this video message: \u201cTalitha Kumi\u201d\u2014\u201cLittle girl, get up!\u201d<\/strong>
When the Kaiserswerth deaconesses used this biblical phrase in 1851 as the foundation for a small educational institution for Arab girls in Jerusalem, they laid the cornerstone for an unparalleled success story. Today, exactly 175 years later, you are celebrating a proud, vibrant, and deeply inspiring anniversary. 175 years of Talitha Kumi mean 175 years of tireless commitment to education and responsibility for generations of young people in Palestine\u2014even in times of profound social and political uncertainty.
From its beginnings in Jerusalem to today\u2019s modern educational center in Beit Jala: Talitha Kumi is and remains a beacon. A place where diversity is lived out, where Christian and Muslim children learn, laugh, and grow up together. And above all: a place that gives young people a solid foundation, educational equity, and the firm conviction that education can change their own lives and society. In a region that so desperately craves stability, the school administration, all teachers, and staff sow the seeds of understanding and social peace anew every day. They give the young people the most valuable foundation for their future: hope<\/strong>.
Special thanks go to the Berlin Mission Society, the dedicated local teachers, the families, and especially the students, who are the heart of this school. You carry the spirit of Talitha Kumi out into the world. For the future, JugendInterKult wholeheartedly wishes the school continued strength to overcome barriers, the courage to break new ground, and God\u2019s abundant blessings.
May this light of hope continue to shine brightly for a very long time.
<\/strong>In addition to organizing two-day youth exchanges, we have, among other things, donated the large Talitha Kumi sculpture at the school\u2019s entrance as well as some of the seating for the new auditorium. Furthermore, we support the school\u2019s \u201c
Mosaik\u201d project and have so far helped six first-year students from the Talitha-Kumi School at German universities with visas, security deposits, residence permits, housing, and all other formalities. JugendInterKult will continue to support you in close partnership. Therefore, I will visit you again next spring to prepare for the next exchange.

ToN (Update as of September 26, 2026): <\/strong><\/p>\n

Today, Daoud flew to the UK and will be back in Bethlehem on October 5. After his return, we will push forward with<\/strong> the Nobel Peace Prize nomination process<\/strong> in order to successfully complete it in early 2027 (see attachment in the last newsletter). Unfortunately, there was yet another incident involving Israeli soldiers who used crowbars and shears to break open a section of the ToN fence, allegedly in search of a Palestinian. Fortunately, many more volunteers are now expected this fall than were in the summer. <\/p>\n

Bodo Ramelow<\/strong>, who serves as Vice President of the Bundestag and as a member of the Bundestag for The Left, among other roles, writes in his \u201cDiary\u201d about his meeting with Daoud on September 22, 2026 (photo: far right with Daoud):<\/p>\n

\u201cWe refuse to be enemies.\u201d This sentence has stayed with me in particular since my encounter with Daoud Nassar and his family from Tent of Nations. On their family farm, \u201cDaher\u2019s Vineyard,\u201d about ten kilometers southwest of Bethlehem, the Christian-Palestinian Nassar family has been committed for many years to nonviolent resistance, intercultural dialogue, and responsible stewardship of the land. In the process, Tent of Nations has become a place where people from all over the world come together and build bridges with one another. For decades, their home and their work have been shaped by a legal dispute over their land, by the surrounding Israeli settlement policies, and by ever-increasing restrictions. And yet their message remains: We refuse to be enemies. As the spokesperson on religious and political affairs for the Left Party (Die Linke) in the Bundestag, this stance has deeply moved me. For it is precisely where religion, background, and political conflicts divide people that we need places where encounter remains possible. Places where hatred and exclusion do not have the final say. And we need voices like that of Daoud Nassar, who also remind us that Christians have been part of this region for centuries and that their perspectives must be heard.
For me, however, listening and understanding do not mean turning a blind eye to injustice. Peace requires rights, security, and dignity for all people. International law must apply to everyone. That is why my parliamentary group is introducing the motion\u201cConsistently Implement International Law\u201d<\/strong>in the German Bundestag this week. It addresses Israel\u2019s occupation and settlement policies in the West Bank and the responsibility Germany bears in dealing with them. The political struggle in the Bundestag and the daily life of the Nassar family are two very different realms. But for me, one question connects them: How can we create a future in which people can live with one another rather than against one another? I am grateful to Daoud Nassar and his family for our meeting, for their openness, and for their perseverance.\u201d <\/p>\n

2.<\/strong> The 2027 Nobel Peace Prize nomination process<\/strong> runs from September 9, 2026, to January 31, 2027. We would like to nominate Daoud Nassar for this award this time.
We are currently seeking university presidents and professors of history, social sciences, law, <\/strong>philosophy, and theology\/religion, as well as members of the Bundestag<\/strong> (excluding the AfD), whowill<\/strong> actively <\/strong>support<\/strong> our cause <\/strong> \u2014either by submitting a nomination or by joining us<\/strong> in a joint <\/strong> Sign the cover letter. Send the relevant contact information to me, among others. <\/strong><\/p>\n

Thanks to our donations, Daoud has now received additional solar panels, batteries, and an inverter. The (used) olive press has since been delivered.
However, he still needs additional donations for infrastructure projects at ToN.<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

JIK supports volunteers\u2019 stays at ToN<\/strong> lasting 2\u20133 weeks or longer by subsidizing or covering their airfare (contact me for more information: 01636-335535). Thanks to our help, volunteers will once again be able to assist there for an extended period. Costs for lodging, meals, etc., are approximately 150 \u20ac per week. With the help of all ToN supporters, we are striving to launch a long-term initiative to save ToN, among other causes. Perhaps you, too, have important contacts or suggestions for us?! Please help through your donations so that the many Christian organizations in Bethlehem and Jerusalem\u2014and especially the Jahalin Bedouins\u2014do not have to give up.<\/p>\n

Call for Donations<\/strong><\/span>
The situation for many people in the Near and Middle East remains catastrophic. Pilgrims and tourists are not expected to return to Bethlehem, for example, until at least the fall. Christian institutions, monasteries (such as those of the Bridgettines), schools, universities, and even large segments of the Palestinian population in the West Bank\u2014especially in Bethlehem\u2014are facing increasingly severe financial hardship or are even at risk of closing down. The greatest concerns remain the famine, the 80% destruction of Gaza, and the aggressive, forced settlement policy in the West Bank and its planned partition. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Therefore, I urge you once again: Please make a generous donation to Bethlehem University and the 5,000 Jahalin Bedouins who are to be forcibly resettled next to a garbage dump!!<\/strong><\/td>\n<\/tr>\n<\/tbody>\n<\/table>\n
